Bord Na Nog AGM 2010

Secretary's report

Under 8:

The U-8's were coached by David Quinn, Mary Quinn, Michelle Tuohy, Catherine Tuohy, Josephine Leydon and Neil Fitzpatrick. They had a busy year starting in March with coaching each saturday finishing up in September with a series of friendly games and lots of novelty events. They also played in a number of blitzs throughout the year.

Under 10:

The U-10's were managed by Paul Little, Mark Tuohy, Glen McDermott and Noel Benson. The team played in the “Go” games competitions along with 24 clubs and achieved success in majority of their games. They won the 2009 Dominic Quinn Perpetual Cup with a narrow three point win over defending champions Coolera on the 1st of August.

Under 12:

This year we had two U-12 teams - 'The Shamrocks' and 'The Gaels' managed by Cormac Kearns, George Hailstones, Pat Murphy, Leah McNulty, Donal Carroll, Philip Kearns, Sinead Kearns and Clare Hennessy. The U12's also played under the“Go” games rules. This is the third year of playing to this new game structure, which gives players more ball contact, a better awareness of team-play and reduces overcrowding on the field. It also allows players more time and space to practise their skills in a playing environment. Both U-12 teams had exciting ends to the campaign with both teams reaching their respective County finals. The Div 1a team - 'The Gaels' - contested the 'B' Championship Cup and defeated Coolera/Strandhill by 3 points in the semi-final, before losing the final to Eastern Harps by one point in an exciting game in Markievicz Park. The Div 2b team 'The Shamrocks' gave a great display in the 'C' championship Shield winning their semi-final against Drumcliffe/Rosses Point before going down by three points against Coolera after extra time in an exciting final.

Under 14 Boys:

The U-14's boys were managed by Michael Candon, John Cawley and Paul Higgins. The team won the ‘C’ championship in fine style in Markievicz Park by comprehensively defeating Bunninadden in the final. The U14's also won the 'C' Blitz Finals beating Drumcliffe in the final. The team were placed in the wrong grade in the league and while they had some great performances they failed to advance.

Under 14 Girls:

The Girls were managed by Michelle Tuohy, helped by Siobhan Brennan, Caroline Lavin and Aoife Harte. The Girls U14 team won the League title with a great win over Tubbercurry in an exciting game played in Ballymote. The under 14 girls were beaten by St Nathy's, in a play-off for a place in the Championship Final.

Under 16:

The U16's were managed by Lauri Quinn, Joe McTiernan and Gearoid O’Connor. They contested the League final and lost to St Johns in a disappointing game played in difficult conditions. They were involved in a three way play off in the 'A' Championship losing to St Johns by five points in the final play off match. Well done to the U-16 panel on what was a good season. Despite not winning any honours the team performed extremely well against tough opposition.

Under 16 Girls

The U-16 team was a very young team and had a tough time in the 'B' League but nevertheless reached the final losing out by 6 points to Drumcliffe. They were placed in the 'C' Championship but unfortunally did not progress.

Minors:

The minors were managed by Michael Brennan, Martin Nealon and Enda O’Connell and Derrick Davey. They had a great league campaign making the final but lost to a stronger St Pats on the day. We had no luck in 'B' Championship.

Junior Ladies:

The Junior ladies were managed by Francis Quinn and Niall Henry and had a very disappointing season - we hope that the fortunes of the team will be better in 2010.

Under 13 Feile competition: Managed by Cormac Kearns, & Michael Candon and with a very young team did not progress.
