14th February 2011 The club's annual Mass in memory of deceased members of the club takes place in Riverstown Church this Friday 18th February at 8.00PM. The 2011 action got underway last Saturday with a home game against Ballymote in the Kiernan Cup. The Gaels were under pressure in the early stages with Ballymote racing into a seven point lead after ten minutes. Peter Henry then scored a great goal on twelve minutes after great work from Joe Quinn. The Gaels settled down and started to compete in the second quarter going in at half time five points down 1-7 to 1-2. The Gaels continued their good work in the second half and despite putting in a good performance; they were unable to find the scores to claw back the deficit and lost out on a scoreline of 1-12 to 1-6 in the end. The team was: Mark Tuohy, Colin Harte, Niall Henry, Keith McMorrow, James Lyons, John Craig, Noel Jinks, Eoin McDermott, Conor Mullen, Kevin Barry, Joe Quinn (0-5), Derrick Davey, Brian McDermott, Peter Henry (1-0), Paddy O'Grady (0-1). Subs: Paul Brennan for Brian McDermott, Paul Higgins for Eoin McDermott, Niall Craig for Noel Jinks. Glen McDermott takes over as Senior Manager assisted by John Lyons as selector - we wish them the best of luck for the year. The club held a registration night for underage players last Saturday - if you missed it you can still register by contacting Mary Quinn on 086 3757626 - the fee is €10 per player and €20 for a family. The Club won the Sligo Club Grounds of the year award for 2010 - Vincent Henry was presented with the award at the Connacht Council's award ceremony last week. Registration fees for Adult players are now due - €50 for those working and €35 for students/unemployed - anyone who is in the monthly club draw has automatic club membership. The winners of the January draw were: Enda Devine, Mattie Quigley and Donal McDermott while the winners of the February draw were: Donie Quinn, Padraig McKeon and James Conlon. The Clubs annual dinner dance takes place on Saturday 19th March in Castledargan - tickets are now on sale from any club member.
