13th June 2011 The Gaels Senior team came off second best to Eastern Harps in the first round of the championship last Saturday evening, despite a brave second half comeback. The Gaels opened the scoring through a Vinny Boyd point, however Harps scored four unanswered points to take control of the game and the Gaels did not score again until the sixteenth minute from a Joe Quinn free. Eastern Harps dominated the second quarter and scored five unanswered points to take a commanding 0-9 to 0-2 lead at half time. The Gaels gave it all in the second half with Joe Quinn scoring three points in quick succession while Liam O'Connell converted a penalty on twelve minutes to leave just a point between the teams. The Gaels now had the upper hand, however Harps clawed back two points to extend their lead to three with twelve minutes remaining. Both teams exchanged points in the following minutes while Liam O'Connell added two more one of which was a converted 45 to leave two points between the teams going into the closing minutes. Eastern Harps regained control of the game in the last ten minutes and ran out deserving winners in the end. The seniors are at home to Tourlestrane in the league this Sunday, while the Juniors are away to Castleconnor this Friday. The Div 1 U12 team lost 0-17 to 0-15 to Eastern Harps last Tuesday while the Div 2b team also lost by 0-16 to -14. The scorers were: Daniel Lyons (0-4), James Carroll (0-5), Dylan McDermott (0-1), Dylan Willis (0-2), Bryan Johnston (0-2). The Div 1 team are away to Tourlestrane this Tuesday in the Div 1 Qtr final. The U14 Boys 11-a side team lost 0-17 to 0-13 to Eastern Harps last Monday. The U14 girls were beaten at home by Owenmore Gaels on Wednesday last. The U12 girls were beaten away to Ballymote last Monday, the team was; Aoife Morrisroe, Sheona Leydon, Jane Benson, Louise Merrick, Leah Monaghan, Mikaela McLoughlin, Mairead Tuohy, Rachel Boyd, Roisin Kearns, Sarah Walsh, Jade Lyons, Kate Buckley, Maebh McDermott, subs Aine Brennan, Lisa Callaghan, Isobel Clarke, Erin Mullaney.
