5th September 2011 The Juniors lost 1-4 to 1-3 to Geevagh in the final of the Junior 'B' Championship last Friday evening at Sligo IT. In a low scoring game the Gaels will look back at the eight first half wides and wonder what might have been had these been converted. Full report elsewhere. The team was: Declan Loughnane, James Conlon, Diarmuid Jinks, Conor McDonagh, Niall Craig, Padraig Cassidy, Noel Jinks, Niall Brennan, Eoin McDermott, Brian Boyd (0-1), Peter Henry, Gavin McMorrow, Keith Candon (1-2), Enda Foley, Enda Tuohy. Subs: Brian McDermott for N Jinks (inj), Donal Carroll for E Foley. The Seniors ensured their Senior Championship status with a two point victory over Tubbercurry at Corran Park on Saturday evening. This was a tense, enthralling encounter with little to separate the two sides throughout and the sides were level at half time. Despite finding themselves two points down within tenminutes of the resumption, the Gaels clawed their way back and three pointed frees from Joe Quinn edged them ahead by a point with six minutes to go. Tubber then equalised with a pointed free, however the decisive score came three minutes from full-time when Liam O'Connell kept his nerve to slot home a penalty. Tubber responded with a pointed free, however the Gaels kept their discipline in a tense final few minutes to run out worthy winners on a scoreline of 1-10 to 1-8. The team was; Mark Tuohy, John Craig, James Lyons, Shane Barry, Kevin Barry, Paul Brennan, Derrick Davey, Frank Quinn, Liam O'Connell (1-0), Keith Mc Morrow, Peter Henry, David Quinn, Joe Quinn (0-8), Eoin Mc Dermott, Paddy O'Grady (0-1). Subs: Vinnie Boyd (0-1) for D Quinn. Before the game a minute's silence was observed in memory of Katie Lyons, Bloomfield, mother of former committee member, Seamus and grandmother to senior players Jarlath and Damien Lyons. The Club wish to sincerely thank the Senior team management of Glen Mc Dermott, John Lyons and James Conlon for their hard work and dedication with the Senior panel during the year.
