31st May 2010 The Golf Classic takes place next Sunday June 6th in Castle Dargan Golf Club. First prize is a weekend away sponsored by FBD Insurances while second prize is a round of Golf and Dinner at Glasson GC sponsored by Flancare. The Senior team continued their good run with an away win against Tubbercurry last Saturday evening. The Gaels got off to a good start with two points from Joe Quinn in the opening ten minutes, while the teams were level on the quarter hour as Tubbercurry responded with two frees. The Gaels then went on a scoring spree scoring 1-6 while holding Tubbercurry scoreless for the remainder of the half. Joe Quinn started the scoring with a free on sixteen minutes while Keith McMorrow added another after a good Gaels move. Paddy O'Grady, Damien Lyons, and Joe Quinn extended the Gaels lead to five points before O'Grady scored a great goal with a minute on the clock and the in form O'Grady notched up another point on the stroke of half time to give the Gaels a nine point lead at half time. The second half was a different story as Tubbercurry completely dominated proceedings and narrowed the gap to two points after scoring 1-4 without reply in the first twenty minutes. Joe Quinn pointed from a free two minutes later to give the Gaels their only score of the second half. Tubbercurry continued to dominate and scored two more points in the closing stages with the Gaels just hanging on to win by a point on a scoreline of 1-8 to 1-9. The junior game away to Coolaney/Mullinabrenna was postponed and now takes place this Wednesday 2nd June. The two U12 teams kept up their good run with two draws against Coolera last Tuesday. The score in the Div 1a game was 0-12 each. The team was: Conor Heffernan, Paul Harrington, Conor McGreavy, Alan Kelly, Andrew Flynn, Mark Keegan, Daragh Hailstones, Cian McDermott, Daire Kearns, Cathal McNulty, Luke Flynn, William Healy. The score in the Div 2b was 0-10 each. The team was: Seamus Hailstones, Niall Higgins, James Carroll, Stephen Willis, Karl McKenna, Ben Tuohy, Conor Mullen, Darragh Kelly, Jack Healy, Tomas Little, Niall Whelan, Dylan McDermott. They play Drumcliffe away this Tuesday. The U12 Girls lost to Calry/St Josephs last Friday evening. The team was: Aine Burns, Sheona Leyden, Eilis O'Connor, Mairead Tuohy, Chloe Merrick, Joanne Johnston (2-0), Ailish Benson, Roisin Kearns, Sarah Walsh, Rachel Boyd (0-2), Aoife Morrisroe, Sinead McGovern, Meave McDermott. The Club wish to express sympathy with Michael Hamilton, Sooey on the death of his brother Vincent in Birmingham and the club wish to express sympathy with the family and relatives of Phyllis Keirns, Drumfin and Alfie Martin, Riverstown who died at the weekend. |
