26th April 2010

Well done to Sligo on a great win at the weekend and congratulations to Frank Quinn and Mark Tuohy who have done their club proud in bringing home the Div 3 Title to the County.

The Seniors had a narrow one point win over St Molaise Gaels last Sunday in a high scoring game in Grange. In an evenly matched opening quarter both sides notched up five points. The Gaels opened the scoring through Peter Henry, while Derek Davey scored a good point after a great Gaels move. Joe Quinn converted from a free midway through the half while full forward Damien Lyons scored his second to level the game on sixteen minutes. The Gaels then raced into a four point lead with three points from Joe Quinn while Peter Henry got his second from a free. Joe Quinn then rounded off the half with two great points in the closing stages to leave the Gaels five points up at half time on a scoreline of 0-11 to 0-5.

St Molaise started the second half brightly with a goal immediately on the restart. They narrowed the gap to a point on seven minutes, however Damien Lyons restored the Gaels lead with a well taken goal a minute later. The Gaels were under a lot of pressure at this stage and when St Molaises were awarded a penalty on ten minutes it looked like they were about to take the lead - however keeper John Craig pulled off a great save to deny them. Joe Quinn and Colin Harte added two quick points to extend the Gaels lead to six points midway through the second half. St Molaises to their credit did not give up and closed the gap to two points on twenty minutes with two points and a second goal. The Gaels, as they had consistently done throughout the game responded strongly with three quick points, one from a Joe Quinn free and two great points from John Paul Henry. In the closing minutes, the Gaels let their guard down and could have paid the price as St Molaise's scored a third goal on the stroke of full time and followed up with a point in injury time, however the Gaels held on to win by a point on a scoreline of 3-10 to 1-17.

U14 team had a great win over local rivals St Michaels in the league last Friday. Having not had a lot of luck so far in the league it was great for the team to register such a good performance. The teams were evenly matched in the first half with two points each from Daniel Willis and Michael Kilkenny while Mark Kearns got in for a goal to leave the half time score at 1-4 to 1-5 in favour of St Michaels. St Michaels extended their lead on the restart with two points before Mark Walsh leveled the game with a goal - however celebrations were short lived as St Michaels scored a goal within a minute after a high ball into the area ended up in the net. The Gaels responded well with a point from Michael Kilkenny. In a tense last ten minutes both sides exchanged points before Mark Keegan got in for a decisive goal and this was followed up by another goal from Ciaran Kilfeather to give the Gaels a six point victory on a scoreline of 4-9 to 2-9.
