The Gaels put up a great first half performance matching St Marys all the way. St Marys opened the scoring with two quick points while Ciarain O'Connor got the Gaels of the mark on five minutes with a point from a free. The Gaels got a great boost on ten minutes with a great Johnny Quinn goal after a clever pass from Dylan Edwards. Adrian McCann and Edwards added two more points on thirteen and twenty six minutes. The Gaels had two clear goal chances in the closing stages of the first half and it was a case of what might have been as both efforts were off target and the Gaels went in two points down at half time on a scoreline of 1-3 to 0-8. The Gaels stayed with Marys for the opening ten minutes of the second half, however when they got in for the first goal on ten minutes, the floodgates opened and the Gaels could not contain the Marys forward line as they went on to a deserved win on a scoreline of 3-18 to 1-4. The team was: Kevin Broderick, John Óg Conlon, Calvin Flynn, Conor Merrick, Peter Lavin, Declan Willis, Gavin McMorrow, Jack Gethins, Adrian McCann (Capt), Kieran Cawley, Ciarain O'Connor, Eoin Carroll, Ronan McTiernan, Dylan Edwards (0-1), Jonathan Quinn (0-1). Subs: Liam Tuohy for John Óg Conlon, Brian Candon for Conor Merrick, Aaron Cawley for Dylan Edwards, Stephen Scanlon. Well done to the team, who despite being disappointed with the final result had a great league campaign reaching the final having only lost one game. The Seniors returned to winning ways with a merited seven point home win over Castleconnor last Sunday. Frank Quinn opened the scoring for the Gaels after three minutes when he rounded off a good Gaels move from a kickout to send the ball over the bar. Castleconnor responded with two points in quick succession, one from a free before Eoin Mc Dermott pointed on nine minutes for the Gaels following a period of sustained pressure from the Gaels attack. Frank Quinn followed this up with an excellently pointed free to restore the Gaels' advantage, however Castleconnor continued to battle hard and scored two points in quick succession. Eoin Mc Dermott then scored the first goal of the afternoon on seventeen minutes, rounding off good interchange play by the Gaels attack. John Paul Henry followed this up five minutes later with a nicely taken point and both sides then exchanged points before half time - the Gaels point being a fine individual effort from Frank Quinn - leaving the half-time score 1-5 to 0-5 in favour of the Gaels. The Gaels dominated the early exchanges of the second half, with Frank Quinn again on the mark on four minutes with a pointed free. Joe Quinn fired over an excellent point from out on the left on eight minutes while full forward, Damien Lyons pointed a minute later to extend the Gaels' lead. The Gaels were moving into top gear at this stage and Lyons followed up two minutes later by coolly finishing off a slick Gaels attack with a well taken goal on eleven minutes. Joe Quinn was again on target three minutes later with another point before Castleconnor capitalised on a Gaels defensive mistake on eighteen minutes to open their scoring for the second half with a goal against the run of play. This started a bit of a revival from the visitors and they added on two more points over the next five minutes to reduce the deficit to five points. The Gaels were not to be denied however and Damien Lyons added to his tally for the afternoon by firing over two excellent long range points within two minutes of each other to effectively seal the contest. Castleconnor pointed a free on the stroke of full time before Damien Lyons capped off his scoring for the afternoon deep into injury time with another well taken point from out on the left. The Junior team let a five point lead slip against Easkey last Saturday evening and ended up sharing the spoils in a scrappy league encounter. The Gaels were bombarded in the opening quarter with Easkey notching up five points without reply before Mark Boyd opened the Gaels account on fourteen minutes. Brian McDermott added another from a free on nineteen minutes as the Gaels came more into the game. Kevin Barry added two good points while Vinny Boyd added another to leave two points between the sides at halftime. The Gaels had a great start to the second half and scored four points without reply in the opening ten minutes to go into a two point lead. Easkey gained their composure and scored two quick points to level the game on seventeen minutes. Kevin Barry scored a great goal on eighteen minutes and this was followed up by points from Enda Foley and Vinny Boyd to put the Gaels five points up with ten minutes remaining.
