23rd August 2010 The August monthly meeting will take place next Monday 30th at 9.00PM in the clubhouse. Congrats and well done to Mark Tuohy and Joe Quinn on winning the all Ireland Junior title at the weekend with Sligo - this is a great achievement for all involved. Congrats also to Gaels players Jonathan Quinn, Adrian McCann, Gavin McMorrow and Declan Willis who won the Fr. Manning Cup with Sligo at the weekend. The Juniors turned in a disappointing performance when they were comprehensively defeated by Tubbercurry in their final Group 1 game in the Junior A Championship last Sunday evening. In a low scoring first half, the opening quarter was dominated by Tubbercurry, who had gone into a four point lead before Enda Foley opened the Gaels' account with a pointed free on 18 minutes. This period was marked by a succession of Gaels wides and with attacks frequently breaking down due to intercepted passes. Tubber notched up a further 3 points before the interval, one from a free, and Brian Mc Dermott was on target for the Gaels with a nice point off the left boot in injury time to leave the half time score Gaels 0-2 - Tubber 0-7. Tubber resumed the action with a point after 3 minutes of the resumption and then struck a hammer blow to the Gaels' aspirations when they found the back of the Gaels net following some poor defending that left Donal Tuohy with no chance. This goal seemed to spur some life into the Gaels' aspirations however and they responded with three unanswered points in a row. The first of these came from Niall Brennan on 8 minutes following good work by Donal Byrne. Brian McDermott followed this up with a nice point and Peter Henry followed this up with an excellently converted free on 13 minutes. Tubber pointed again on 18 minutes and Henry was again on target with another pointed free on 21 minutes. Tubber responded with two more points and then put the contest beyond doubt in the 24th minute with another goal. At this stage it was all one way traffic and Tubber tacked on two further points before Brian Mc Dermott and Donal Byrne rounded off the evening's scoring with two points for the Gaels in the 29th and 30th minutes respectively. The final score was; Shamrock Gaels 0-8, Tubbercurry 2-13. The team was: Donal Tuohy, Diarmuid Jinks, Raymond Murrin, Noel Jinks, Padraig Cassidy, Niall Craig, Niall Brennan (0-1), Niall Henry, Peter Henry (0-2), Mark Boyd, Enda Foley (0-1), Kevin Barry, Duncan Ryan, Sean Mc Hugh, Brian McDermott (0-3). Subs; Donal Byrne (0-1) for K Barry (inj), David Quinn for D Ryan, Niall McDermott for S McHugh, Donal McDermott for N Craig (inj) and Brian Boyd for P Henry.
