To book your tee time please contact Eugene Carroll at 087 2216477 or email pro@shamrockgaels.com. There will be a Bord Na Nóg meeting this Thursday at 8.00PM in the Clubhouse. There will be a special club meeting immediately after the Junior game next Saturday evening. This meeting is with the development committee and a full attendance is expected. A below par
Junior team were well beaten by Bunninadden in the 2nd round of the League
last Friday. Paddy O'Grady opened the scoring for the Gaels within a minute
of the start, however a much fitter Bunninadden took over and registered
five points without reply before converting a penalty on twenty one minutes.
Vincent Boyd converted a free two minutes later, however the home side
responded with two converted frees before Paddy O'Grady sent over a free
for the Gaels to leave the half-time score 1-7 to 0-3 in favour of Bunninadden.
Upon the resumption, Bunninadden continued where they had left off, adding
two more points in the first four minutes. Eoin Mc Dermott then latched
on to a rebound to crash the ball to the net on five minutes to kick-start
something of a Gaels revival. The following minutes saw sustained pressure
from the Gaels and Ciaran Coleman reduced the deficit to five points when
he finished a good run with a well taken point. Donal Tuohy then made
his second brilliant save of the evening a minute later to deny a certain
goal. Bunninadden pointed a minute later before Vincent Boyd was on the
mark again for the Gaels with a nicely taken point. The Juniors are at home to Easkey this Saturday evening at 7.30PM. The Seniors
went down to St. Mary's in Round 8 of the League at Kent Park on Saturday
evening. Starting with the advantage of a strong cross- field breeze,
the Gaels opened the scoring with a nice point from the industrious Frank
Quinn after five minutes. Mary's were on level terms within two minutes
and then rocked the Gaels with a goal shortly afterwards with a move that
started in their own back-line. They added another point on thirteen minutes
before Quinn was again on target with a great individual point on fifteen
minutes. John Paul Henry added another point for the Gaels from a fourteen
yard free and the Gaels proceeded to put the Mary's defence under severe
pressure for the next ten minutes, however they failed to capitalise on
this dominance and were served a warning on 22 minutes, when Mark Tuohy
was forced to pull off a great save from a goal bound shot. Mary's did
eventually fire over a point a minute later and straight from the kick-out
won possession and broke through the Gaels' defence for their second goal,
followed up four minutes later with the killer blow of another goal. JP
Henry kept the Gaels in touch with a good point in injury time to leave
the half-time score; Shamrock Gaels 0-4, St. Mary's 3-3. Facing into the
wind in the second half, it was a tall order for the Gaels to turn things
around, however they upped their performance commendably and had pulled
back two points within four minutes from a converted J P Henry free and
a Damien Lyons score from the resultant kick-out. This was followed by
a succession of wides from St. Mary's and despite putting in a lot of
hard work, the Gaels were unable to convert possession into scores, with
their next score coming from a J P Henry free on 23 minutes. St. Mary's
got their only score of the second half on the stroke of full-time, to
run out winners on a score-line of 3-4 to 0-7. The Seniors are at home next Sunday at 12.00Pm to Castleconnor. The U16 team
had a comprehensive win over St Johns in the semi-final of the League
last Monday and now take on St Mary's in the final on Monday 17th. St
Johns opened the scoring in the first minute while Kieran Cawley responded
with a point for the Gaels. St Johns added their second on seven minutes
but the Gaels went on a scoring spree getting 2- On Sunday last the Ladies team had a good win over Ballisodare in Shamrock Gaels Park.
