The annual
Golf Classic takes place in four weeks time on Sunday June 6th in Castle
Dargan Golf Club. This is the day after Sligo take on Mayo in the Championship
and is an ideal opportunity to meet up with friends and acquaintances
after the big game. First prize is a weekend away sponsored by FBD Insurances
while second prize is a round of Golf and Dinner at the prestigious Glasson
GC sponsored by Flancare. To book your tee time please contact Eugene
Carroll at 087 2216477 or email pro@shamrockgaels.com.
The Seniors maintained their winning streak with a merited six point home
win over Easkey last Saturday evening. Joe Quinn opened the scoring after
two minutes with a point, however the Gaels were rocked two minutes later
when a high dropping ball was fumbled into the net to get Easkey off the
mark. The Gaels responded well with a great Joe Quinn point after six
minutes, followed by a goal from Colin Harte, who pounced on a loose ball
to crash the ball to the net. The Gaels were well on top at this stage
and went on to hit five points without reply.
The first of these was an excellent pointed free from Joe Quinn on 10
minutes. John Paul Henry followed this up with a good point from play,
before Quinn pointed a free midway through the half. Henry pointed again
on twenty one minutes before Colin Harte finished off a good Gaels move
from defence with a well taken point. Easkey finally got a point from
a free on twenty nine minutes, however Quinn responded a minute later
with a free to leave the Gaels seven points up at half time on a scoreline
of 1-8 to 1-1.
The Gaels
were rocked within two minutes of the resumption with a well taken Easkey
goal. This spurred Easkey on and they went on to notch up two further
points, both from frees, to reduce the deficit to just two points after
eleven minutes of the second half. The Gaels were struggling in all sectors
at this stage and but for some wayward finishing by their opponents, could
well have found themselves behind.
Joe Quinn finally lifted the siege with a pointed 14 yard free on twenty
one minutes and was again on the mark five minutes later after a nice
turn and shot. The Gaels were finally starting to re-exert their superiority
at this stage and Colin Harte was again on target with a point on twenty
eight minutes before substitute Paddy O'Grady fired over a good individual
score on the stroke of full time to leave the final score, Shamrock Gaels
1-12, Easkey 2-3.

and the ball went over for a point. The Gaels drove on scoring another
1-2 before the break while Tourlestrane scored a late point and added
a goal well into injury time, leaving the half time score at 3-6 to 1-2.
Tourlestrane got the second half off to a great start scoring 1-2 without
