8th February 2010 We had a very successful underage fundraiser last Saturday night with Riverstown Hall packed to the rafters where the local stars took to the stage for 'Stars in Their Eyes'. Thanks to all who made this such a successful event - especially the acts who were brave enough to get up on stage. Thanks to MC Paul Quinn who did an excellent job in presenting the evening and also to our 'judges' - Catherine Kelly aka Sharon, Paul Little aka Simon and Martin Keegan aka Louis for their insightful input. A special word of thanks to all who attended on the night and those who voted in advance without whom this event would not have been such a success. The first competitive action of the year kicked off on Sunday when the Minors got off to a winning start in the league against St Maloise's. In a tight game the Gaels were two points up at half time on a scoreline of 0-6 to 0-4. Maloise's leveled the game ten minutes into the second half and looked to be getting back into the game, however Kieran Cawley put the Gaels ahead on thirteen minutes and when Rickie Johnston saved a certian goal mid-way through the second half the Gaels were spurred on and scored four unanswered points to win on a scoreline of 0-11 to 0-6. The team was: Richard Johnston, Gavin McMorrow, Robert Johnston, Séan Kilfeather, Gearóid McTiernan, Donal Carroll, Eoin O'Connell, Paul O'Grady, Kevin Coleman, Ciarán O'Connor, Jonathan Quinn, David Quinn, Kieran Cawley. Subs: Eoin Carroll for Kevin Coleman (inj), Shane Barry for Kieran Cawley. Kieran Cawley for Robert Johnston (inj). We wish Robert Johnston a speedy recover from a shoulder injury he received in the game. The Minor Management team for 2010 is Paul O'Grady, Peter Coleman, Mick Candon and Paul Higgins - we wish them well for the year ahead. The minor's next game is away to Geevagh on the 28th Feb. The Club have confirmed the date for the annual Dinner Dance - it will take place in Castledargan on Saturday 20th March - put the date in your diary. We have also confirmed the Golf Classic for Sunday 6th June (Bank Holiday weekend) - this will also take place in Castledargan. There will be a Bord Ná Nóg meeting this Friday night 12th at 8.30PM in the Clubhouse while the next senior meeting will be Monday March 1st at 8.00PM. At the Senior meeting last week two sub committees were formed for the coming year - Finance Committe - Vivion Boyd, Eugene Carroll, Andrew Hannon, Shane Quigley, Mary Quinn and Hilary Lyons and Development Committee - Paul Little, Seamus Cawley, Lauri Quinn, Gus Chapman and James Conlon. The winners of the monthly draw were Michael Tuohy, Tommy Deignan & Trevor Kelly. The club would like to express sympathy with the family and relatives of Beatrice O'Carroll, Cloghogue who died last week. |
