5th July 2010

Well done to Sligo on a great result at the weekend and congratulations to Frank Quinn who made his championship debut.

The VHI Cúl Camp takes place in Shamrock Gaels Park on 26th to 30th July for ages 7-13 - you can book on line at vhiculcamps.gaa.ie or by contacting Mary Quinn on 086 3757626.

It was a bad week on the pitch with both the senior and junior teams out of luck. The Juniors gave a poor performance last Monday away to Eastern Harps in the league. In a poor first half the Gaels only managed one point through Enda Tuohy and were thirteen points down at half time. The Gaels put in a better performance in the second half and had four points on the board after ten minutes with three from Vincent Boyd and one from Paddy O'Grady, however Eastern Harps asserted their dominance with a goal on eleven minutes to extend their lead. The Gaels did dominate the closing quarter scoring five points however it was too little to late as the Harps won on a scoreline of 2-13 to 0-9. The team was: Donal Tuohy, Christopher McMorrow, Sean McHugh, Conor McDonagh, Padraig Cassidy, Noel Jinks, John Craig, Peter Henry, Enda Tuohy (0-3), Kevin Barry, Vincent Boyd (0-4), Mark Boyd, Brian McDermott, Eoin McDermott, Paddy O'Grady (0-1). The Juniors take on St Farnans at home this wednesday at 8.00PM while they are away to St Johns next Sunday at 2.00PM.

The senior team played Tubbercurry on Friday evening and despite getting a great start with two quick points from Joe Quinn, the Gaels were completely outplayed with Tubbercurry scoring 1-7 to go into an eight point lead at half time. The Gaels did up their game in the second half with Joe Quinn adding three more points in the opening quarter. Tubber responded well and cancelled out the scores with their second goal on thirteen minutes. Eoin McDermott got a goal a minute later, however Tubber again kept distance with the Gaels with three quick points to keep their ten points advantage going into the last ten minutes. McDermott added his second goal with seven minutes remaining while John Paul Henry notched up two scores to narrow the gap to five points. Tubber however finished with a flurry and added a third goal in the final minute to win on a scoreline of 2-7 to 3-12. The team was: John Craig, Niall Craig, James Lyons, Keith McMorrow, Johnny Burke, Paul Higgins, Colin Harte, Jarlath Lyons, Eoin McDermott (2-0), Enda Tuohy, Niall Henry, Paddy O'Grady, Joe Quinn (0-5), John Paul Henry (0-2), Derick Davey, Subs: Mark Tuohy for Paul Higgins, Sean McHugh for Enda Tuohy.

The misery continued for the Gaels on Sunday when the Senior team gave a lack lustre display against Drumcliffe in the league. The Gaels could only manage one point from Joe Quinn in the first half and went in five points down at half time. While the Gaels were expected to improve their performance in the second half with the benefit of the breeze, it was Drumcliff that started better with three points in quick succession. The Gaels did not register their second score until the seventeenth minute when Joe Quinn converted a free. Paddy O'Grady got in for a goal on twenty one minutes after a great run from Frank Quinn while John Paul Henry scored a long range point a minute later. The Gaels however did not build on this and Drumcliffe ran out deserving winners on a scoreline of 1-4 to 0-11.
