5th April 2010

The Senior team's game against Tubbercurry was postponed due to the death of Sean McCarthy, Boyle, brother-in-law of Club Chairman Vincent Henry. The Club wish to express sympathy with the McCarthy and Henry families on their loss.

Hard luck to Sligo U-21's and Gaels players Conor Mullen and Paul Higgins who were part of the panel.

The U-12 team take pride of place this week as they travel to Croke Park on Thursday 8th April to take part part in the Connaught Council's Activities day in Croke Park. We will have two teams participating and each will get to play three twenty minute blitz games on the hallowed turf. There are extra places available on the bus and if anyone wishes to travel please contact Cormac Kearns on 087 2358840.

The U12 league gets underway next Tuesday 13th April with an away game against St Johns.

The U16 team were at home to Tubbercurry on Easter Monday at 7.00PM and they are away to Eastern Harps on Monday next 12th April at 7.00PM.

The U-14 team went down to Drumcliffe/Rosses Point last Friday in round 2 of the league. The Gaels opened the scoring in the first minute with a pointed free from Mark Kearns. Drumcliffe then scored three points and a goal to go five points up. The Gaels responded well and Ryan McKenna pointed from a free on seventeen minutes while Mark Keegan scored a great point on twenty minutes to leave the half time score at 0-3 to 1-3 - indeed the gap could have been closer as the Gaels were unfortunate to miss a penalty. Drumcliffe scored a a goal and two points in the first thirteen minutes of the second half which gave the Gaels a mountain to climb. Nothing seemed to be going right for the Gaels and they were unlucky to miss a second penalty mid-way through the second half. Despite finishing strong with points from Mark Walsh and Ciaran Kilfeather, the Gaels lost on a scoreline of 0-5 to 2-7.

The team was: Stephen Keegan, Sean O'Grady, Paul Higgins, Eoin O'Connell, Conor Carroll, Caolan McCann, Ryan McKenna (0-1), Michael Kilkenny, Mark Kearns (0-1), Caolan Morrisroe, Mark Keegan (0-1), Mark Walsh (0-1), Ciaran Kilfeather (0-1). Subs: Declan Benson for Mark Kearns, Conor Heffernan for Mark Walsh, Cian McDermott for Caolan Morrisroe.

The U14's next game is away to Enniscrone Friday week 16th April at 7.00PM.

The U8 and U10's have their first game this weekend against Ballymote - details will be sent out by text.

Thanks to the local Red Cross branch for their attendance at our recent home game with St Mary's and we look forward to having this great local service available to us in the year ahead.
