SOOEY WIN CUMANN na mBUNSCOL 4/5 TEACHER BOYS FINAL

SOOEY NS - 3-8

CURRY - 1-13

Sooey National School overcame the disappointment of two lost finals in a row to overcome a strong Curry NS team in the final of the 3/4 Teacher Boys competition last Saturday in Markchievz Park.

Sooey NS had a difficult start with Curry racing into a three point lead within the first couple of minutes. They were not to be deterred and quickly composed themselves settling into the game and dominated proceedings for the rest of the half. They were on level terms mid way through the half and went in at half time two points up at half time on a scoreline 1-6 to 0-7 with the goal coming from Marc Keegan.

In the second half Sooey had to withstand a lot of pressure as Curry NS started to dominate and were level within five minutes. Curry then scored a goal to go into a three point lead as everything seemed to be going wrong for Sooey NS. Sooey NS found themselves six points down with five minutes remaining and when Mark Kearns hit the crossbar it looked like it was not going to be Sooey's day. However Sooey, with a never say die attitude got back into the game with a Sean Clerkin goal - and when Marc Keegan punched a high ball to the net - Sooey were just a point behind as the game entered the final minutes. Sooey were awarded a free to the right of the goals and as the sizeable Sooey support held their breath - Sean Clerkin took a quick free to the advancing Paul McGoldrick who slotted it over the bar to level the game in the final minute.

The game looked like it was heading for extra time when Mark Kearns coming in from the right scored an excellent point to win the game for Sooey NS to scenes of wild celebration. The team was: Ryan Healy, Dáire Kearns, Cormac Flynn, Kealan Mitchell Hughes, Steven Willis, Paul McGoldrick, Marc Keegan, Sean Clerkin, Conor Mullen, Nathan Healy, Mark Kearns. Subs: Ross McMorrow, Tomas Little
