Shamrock
Gaels U-10 Team won the 2009 Dominic Quinn win a narrow three point
win over defending champions Coolera in an exciting final today at Shamrock
Gaels Park.
There
were eight teams participating in the Cup - Shamrock Gaels, St Michaels,
Coolera, Curry, Tubbercurry, St Marys, Drumcliffe and Geevagh with the
Gaels and St Marys entering two teams. The group winners gained automatic
qualification for the semi finals with Curry winning group 1, Coolera
group 2 and Drumcliffe/Rosses Point winning group 3. The Gaels were
then in a play off with St Marys for the last semi-final place as the
best runner up.
The Gaels
narrowly defeated St Marys in the play off and went on to defeat Curry
in the Semi-Final.

On the
other side of the draw, Coolera defeated Drumcliffe/Rosses Point to
advance to the final. Coolera
had defeated the Gaels in the group stages by two points and went into
the game as favourites.
The Gaels
had the benefit of the breeze in the first half and had a three point
lead going in at half time. In the second half Coolera dominated the
opening five minutes and were level with the Gaels going into the closing
stages, however two great points from Stephen Willis and from Michael
Barry was enough to give the Gaels the title.
The Club
would like to thank all of the teams who participated and a special
word of thanks to Liam Óg Gormely who organised the blitz and
to coaches Pat Kilcoyne and Charlie Harrisson for their participation.
Thanks also to referee Gus Chapman and all who assisted on the day -
especially those who were kept busy in the kitchen!!
Thanks
to the Quinn family for their continuing sponsorship of this blitz in
memory of their late father Dominic.
