Minor League 27th February 2011 Shamrock Gaels 3-15 St Johns 1-3 The minor team got the season off to a great start with a comprehensive victory over St Johns at Riverstown on Sunday morning. Brian Boyd opened the scoring in the first minute, however St Johns were awarded a penalty on three minutes which they converted and they quickly followed this up with another point to go into a three point lead within five minutes. The Gaels did not panic and stuck to the task scoring four points without reply to go into a one point lead mid-way through the half - two from David Quinn and one each from Keith Candon and Paul O'Grady. In the second quarter the Gaels started to take command and a Kevin Coleman goal and two more points from Quinn gave them a commanding lead on twenty minutes. Kieran Cawley added another goal on twenty seven minutes while a point from Ciarain O'Connor on the stroke of half time left the score at 2-8 to 1-2. The Gaels continued to dominate the second half and St Johns only managed one point from a free on ten minutes while David Quinn on the other hand was on fire socring a goal and three points in the opening quarter. Keith Candon got his second point on seventeen minutes while Brian Boyd pointed from a free on eighteen minutes. Half-back Gavin McMorrow pointed on nineteen minutes while Boyd added his third in the closing minutes to give the Gaels an easy win on a scoreline of 3-15 to 1-3.
